Hi, my name is Jo, and I am a sew-a-holic. It’s been 16 days since I touch my sewing machine. Last night I caved in.

My bf and I went bowling last Saturday for the first time since I can remember. I loved playing on the Wii but I soon found out that it is not that easy. Tendinitis set in the next day. Fortunately I had my all natural Tropiceel rub and a brace so it only lasted 3 days. So no sewing for me last weekend!

Two weekends ago my family and I went on a walk to a neighbor’s yardsale and found some awesome treasures! My bf bought an old fishing net for $5. Worthy of hanging on the wall, but I bet he will use it for its actual purpose. I found a lace overshirt and a year of white tulle for $1 each and my brain gears started turning! Unfortunately work and tendinitis stopped me from putting my findings to good use.

Last night I finally set up my machine and went to work on an easy skirt to match the minty chevron 3/4 sleeve shirt I’ve been wanting to post on Etsy. It was super easy to make. I just cut the lace overshirt at the side seams, trimmed off the bottom, and cut it at 6″ wide. I then cut some inexpensive white underskirt material to the same width and decided on 19″ long. I hemmed the bottom and zig zag finished the top pieces. Since the layers were so slippery, I sewed a stay stitch about 1/4″ from the top edge. To make the elastic casing, I turned the top to the back 5/8″ and sewed it down. I added elastic and sewed the side seams together to finish the skirt. Super easy skirt to make and it compliments the mint and white shirt to make a cute addition to my Etsy shop. Check it out here — Mint and White Chevron Shirt and White Lace Skirt.

Next, I plan to make a few lacy tank tops to match some skinny jeans. I am curious to see if outfits sell better than separated which is why I have only posted outfits. What are your thoughts???

Have a great weekend,

Jo

It’s been a great week of no sewing and focusing on social media. My hands are rested and now my mind is full of ideas!

I follow Jason Miles (from makesellgrow.com) on Pinterest and have been working on applying what I’ve learned from what he pins. My photography has improved so much! I’ve made a banner for Facebook and Etsy. Oh, and most important, I posted 6 outfits on Etsy!

Back in the day, we used to use Gimp photo editor on our computer that ran Linux. I reinstalled it on our Windows computer and man, I need some refreshers. Thank God for YouTube. Check out the banner I made, I will make a better one once I have learned more.

I have also increased my presence on Pinterest and Instagram and took some pointers from the experienced. Pin less about me, like and comment on other people’s work, and space out posts.

At the vendor show last week, I promised that I would send out updates and let people know when I got my Etsy shop up and running. So I sent out my first newsletter to my little group of followers. MailChimp turned out to be a great resource for newsletter creation and subscriber management.

What a great week of learning! Be sure to follow me on Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook

Have wonderful weekend everyone,

Jolene
